What is the difference between the fall and May trip?

NOTE: This page mainly features dog photos from the locations. Of course, we'll also be shooting some cool horse models!

The main difference between these two trips is, of course, the natural colors. While nature comes alive in May, in autumn everything turns red, orange, soft greens, and brown.

Austria is incredibly beautiful in both May and October, but there are some other differences besides the colours.

Trip contents:

The content of the trip hasn't changed much compared to the May trip. We'll continue photographing horses and dogs and return to many familiar locations. However, there will be some differences here and there.

The autumn trip will be much more active than the May trip. While in May we'll walk to a location and stay at the edge of a lake, for example, in the autumn we'll walk around the lake. This allows for more photo opportunities and a truly immersive experience during a photoshoot with the models and each other. Not everyone enjoys a lot of walking, climbing, and longer journeys. That's why I've made a clear distinction between both trips. I'm also very selective in choosing locations to truly offer you the ultimate autumn experience. That's why some locations will be returning, and some will be replaced by a different one.

During this trip, my friend and fellow photographer Boukje (@bembregtsfotografie) will provide me with photo and video equipment, so this year there is room for 7 photographers instead of 8.

Finally, what are some important differences that you should know in advance?

This trip is more for the active and sporty nature lovers among us photographers. There's more walking and we'll be at locations longer. The days are also shorter during this trip, with later light and earlier darkness. So, early risers and late risers will have a quieter time in October. 😉 Because of these shorter days, one photoshoot is planned for each day (weather permitting).

Furthermore, everything will remain the same as you are used to or have seen before!

Why a photo tour in Austria?

A big dream of mine was to one day organize a photo tour. But where to? No country gave me a direct reason to organize something there. Until our move to Austria in 2022 came our way. We left for Rinnen, a small village next to Berwang located in the Zugspitze Arena. There I continued my photography of course and discovered the nature and special places of Austria. I saw many locations and with many of them there was one thought that came to me: "Wow, if only more photographers saw these places!" From then on, the big dreams of one day organizing a photo tour started and last year I organized the first edition! And wow, what a lot of fun it was to do! It was really a mega cool kick-off! Every location that I selected for the trip was inspected by me on a number of important points: space, accessibility, special features and environment. All locations must score high on those points with me in order to give you the best experience. And they certainly did that last year! (Read those promising words below!) With its breathtaking landscapes, rich culture and photogenic locations, Austria is an inspiration for every photographer!

I work for booking the trip with room packages (including everything that is included in the photo trip. You can find the list of these below!). Because we have family lodges and are not a hotel, you have lodges where you can sleep alone or with one other photographer in one lodge. So there is room for 7 participants for the photo trip. This means 4 lodges where you will stay divided. Read the packages carefully to see what is included and what is not included in the photo trip.

You can choose to travel by plane, car (carpool!), or train. Please arrive before 5:00 PM due to the schedule.

Groceries

Because we have fully equipped lodges with a kitchen in each, everyone arranges their own meals. You'll do your own grocery shopping (MPreis at the bottom of the mountain near us) and have time to pick up any groceries on your arrival day (May 9th). Of course, you're free to enjoy meals together at the lodges. You can even cook together! :) So we'll have one pizza night, one dinner in the village, and one luxury brunch, so you won't need to pick up your own dinner, breakfast, or lunch, as it's all included in the photo tour!

I booked this trip because I wanted to photograph dogs and horses in a completely different and beautiful setting and to share experiences with other photographers. And secretly, to escape the daily grind for a week ;-) Well, I certainly succeeded. What a fantastic week it was! The surroundings, the apartment, the group, Anne and her parents who took such good care of us, the friendly atmosphere—everything was perfect! And we were so lucky with the weather. Because of this, we really enjoyed both sunrise shoots (despite the 3:30 a.m. alarm) and the rest of the shoots as well. We had a wide variety of models in front of the lens, and Anne always managed to keep everything running smoothly. We ended up going home with SD cards chock full and an unforgettable experience! I recommend this trip to every horse/dog photographer because you not only learn so much, but you'll also have a whole new portfolio afterward!

Hi, I'm Anne!

I am Anne, 22 years old and a Rotterdam photographer with a big dose of passion for photography (and love for animals).

I've been riding horses for 14 years and grew up with dogs, so it was no surprise that they are the ones I love most in front of my lens.

And that constant "my pet isn't photogenic"? I don't believe that at all.

Every animal has its own magic and I make sure that it really becomes visible on screen.

Besides animals, I also photograph entrepreneurs who are ready for the next step: professional photos that reflect who you are, so your company is visible and customers recognize your brand/company.

Because let's be honest: the time of selfies as profile pictures is over 😉

In 2022, my family and I decided to change course: leave Rotterdam, hello Berwang (Austria)!

Now I enjoy working in both countries and I organize an annual photo trip for dog and horse photographers.

My motto? Let's capture magic together with a smile, a dose of enthusiasm, and photos worthy of framing. 📸

Further important information

The first evening you will have plenty of time to get to know everyone and get to know your possible bedroom roomie!
It is also important that you have no problem walking/hiking/descending. So don't have an injury where walking or a small climb is affected.
We capture both horse and dog models with and without their owners.
The schedule includes 6 photo shoots with on each shoot around 2+/- models. On the arrival and departure day of course no photo shoot is planned.
The program starts on Sunday, October 18, with the first photo shoot. The program ends Friday the 23th in the evening.
You have a valid passport or ID.
You are 16 years of age or older. Up to 18, you will have proof of agreement with signature from your parents/guardians that you can present.
Novice photographers are welcome, but you really must have basic knowledge of camera equipment and be able to handle it. Also, have Adobe Photoshop on your laptop. The trip will definitely be a huge portfolio boost for the beginning photographer as well!
As of this year, the trip is open to everyone from different countries! The main language spoken during the trip will differ from how many participants who come from a country. Of course I will translate everything I say into Dutch, German or English. The speaking with the models is automatically in German but I translate where necessary into Dutch or English extra. Do you find it scary to participate in an international trip? I understand that, but you are not alone! For me this was also new, but this will come naturally during the trip! How fun is it to connect with different people!
Are you coming to fly to Austria? The airport closest to us is Innsbruck. Otherwise, Munich would also be an option. Both airports have good train options to us. The train station you should navigate to with us is: Bichlbach. If you can't figure it out or have any questions you can always send me a message!
Lodge Schlierewand has the largest living area where we will hold the Photoshop class once. Should you sleep here please keep that in mind :)
During the trip there is plenty of opportunity to spar with me or if necessary the other participants and ask your questions. This can be about positioning, marketing, social media etc!
Well in advance you will receive a packing list from me so that you come to Austria fully prepared!
At the start of the trip you will receive a nice goody bag!

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU NEED?

Body.
Lens: I recommend you and it is useful to have a zoom lens (eg 70-200 mm) and a small telephoto lens (i.e. beautiful landscape on the picture I recommend a 24-70 or a 14-28 etc). This is otherwise your own responsibility what you want and bring. You can also rent lenses at Budgetcam! Tip from flip :)
Laptop with Adobe Photoshop installed on it.
Hard disk, enough SD cards or XQD card, batteries and chargers.
Other stuff you can bring will be given to the participants in the form of a packing list.
